I strongly support efforts from @DeanPreston to open a safe camping site in the Haight. We need to open more safe camping spaces while working toward building more shelters and supportive housing. see, you’ve accidentally hit the nail on the head. people in a community where you don’t live did a thing you don’t like and you think they should be punished for it. fine. but you’re not helping homeless people by increasing their risk of contracting a lethal disease.

No, I’m not punishing them for it. I’m just saying, you’re saying “the community” wants a shelter when it has shown pretty clearly that it doesn’t. And closed shelters have been a major vectors of disease!

One of the largest outbreaks in the city was at MCD South, before the City pulled the plug because they were on track to infect hundreds with COVID. The open air tent shelters have been way, way safer
