I think people are referring to the RE cost savings not being pass down to employees via home office budget

employees are already saving money (partly why our economy is in such bad shape): transportation, fuel, eating out, work clothes, moving to less expensive areas (!!!). for the rest, including the home office if you want it, we should be talking about changing the tax code.

I'm working on a $39 Ikea table - you can even select what type of wood finish and legs you want to attach - the legs are a little extra. I did splurge on an ergonomic chair, but most companies will reimburse you now for your setup, so this is a non-issue.
-
The total cost of my setup is dwarfed by the cost of the standing desk, 38" ultra-widescreen, and ergonomic chair currently collecting dust in our SF HQ. Companies will embrace remote, even a $2K employee stipend is cheaper than FiDi office space...

Yeah, I’ll take those costs anytime if it saves me gas money, car maintenance costs, subway tickets, dress shirts, work pants, work shoes, dry cleaning, overpriced downtown lunches, unnecessary Starbucks coffees etc etc

There’s a benefit to having a work space that’s not in the home. That’s how it looks to me. Few will create a home office space and incur that cost, but WFH does take away the benefit of having a dedicated and clearly defined work space
-
i agree, but that’s a separate question

I just picked up an ikea drafting table for $50 on FB marketplace. Can be converted to standing height. Also found a 48” led strip light for $10 at HD for better video lighting.

WFH until everyone had to do it...was one of the most cited perks of joining our remote first company. Now it’s a problem? There will always be something...
-
i think at scale problems that weren't initially apparent probably do appear. but yes, the larger problem here is we have a lot of people looking for a problem where none yet exists.
