How many employers will not grimace at the absence of a degree? How many will not delight in the presence of one from Harvard, MIT, Stanford, etc? These two factors drive many pursue degrees and assume the debt. If we change them we can unlock actual value for students.

Gonna be a hell of a claim to a bio or chem degree when you’ve never worked in a lab. Liberal arts and computer based engineering degrees won’t be affected at all though.

"We" aren't signing them up for anything. People who takes out loans sign themselves up for the debt. They should be doing their due diligence before borrowing money, like everyone should when borrowing money.

I agree they she be held accountable for their choices. But 17/18 year olds are *heavily* influenced by the advice of their parents, teachers & other adults. If everyone is saying they must go, most will go. We need to be careful with our advice.
