i'm producing two podcasts on a laptop with a hundred dollar mic, descript, adobe audition, and soundcloud — no studio, no real budget, no help. but my interview quality sounds close to par with what i'm hearing out of "pro" shops with $$$. our tools have gotten REALLY GOOD.

How are you recording the other person (unless you’re just talking solo)? Zencastr? Sound quality is hard when others don’t have a good mic I’ve found. Started getting them to record into voice memo app and then sending me the file. It works phenomenally.
I just treat it a bit in audition after. I've tried asking guests to record locally, but it adds a layer of friction I'm not comfortable with when asking busy people for their time, as well as hours more work for myself in post because the files never sync exactly

There is a trick I learned from my producer who works at WYNC. You connect phone to a Zoom H5, and then mic into the other output. You’re then able to record the audio as two separate tracks. Solid audio quality & little friction on there end. Can share cheat sheet if interested
