a lot of people have been shouting from my mentions that the problem with our government is a philosophy of keeping it small, which... of course ignores completely the disaster state of california. the problem with our government is people like this are in charge.

It can't be such a "disaster state" as you described it if that "disaster state" has managed to cultivate and sustain the #1 largest state economy in the U.S. and the 5th largest economy in the world.
by this logic america, which has the largest economy in the world, has the greatest government in the world

You could make the argument that, despite all of its flaws, that is indeed the case, especially given the level of stability relative to other countries that the U.S. has experienced over the years. That's a key reason why people from all over want to immigrate to the U.S.
