    in terms of our entire generation being ~ showered with participation trophies ~ 1) i don't actually remember that being the rule. 2) when i *was* given a participation trophy i don't remember ever thinking "wow, i won!" and finally 3) you idiots gave them to us, blame yourselves

        My hot take is that participation trophies are good—literature on child psychology shows that rewarding kids for effort is the most important thing to generate long term good habits, rather than praising them based on outcome

        The biggest conceptual mistake of the participation trophy critique is that it assumes everyone gets a participation trophy—but you don’t! Most people don’t participate! The distinction is between participants and non-participants
