Someone eventually needs to do the math on how many masks China sucked out of the global market before demand woke up elsewhere.

Babies come from storks. Why does the WHO/CDC think the average American can't understand or come to terms with hard truths. Masks work, but health workers need them more than you.
-
It's part of a pre-existing pattern with them. CDC sees increased health literacy as a problem.

Masks are sentient beings and they will only obey health workers

The tradeoff is real tho; their reason for lying was right The truth is masks work, but if people knew this many (>20%) would still buy them for themselves, healthcare workers be damned (Of course, the gov should just buy them at a premium above market, but that won't happen)
-
Tbc, I think they shouldn't have lied b/c long-run everyone wearing masks might help solve this But "trust the public, they can understand that a tradeoff exists & will save masks for healthcare workers" is just baloney

Masks can't protect you if you don't know how to use them properly to protect you there is more to it then just having it on putting it on and taking it off there are procedures to limit exposure and prevent transmission.
