the thing about your thesis is that it's exactly Facebook's reason to continue to exist — the idea that they are a net positive rather than a net negative in the world it's also incredibly convenient because we cant reliably quantify or measure this

well i think teh point stands even on a micro level when limited to corona. Other folks have made arguments to this extent in the past but i dont have the level of confidence to agree. i think it's the central question of our time in covering techcos!

I too am puzzled by the implicit view that Facebook/Twitter cannot be positives to the world in *any* sphere. Saying they have been helpful here does not mean *everything* about them is great! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
