people in san francisco keep telling me coronavirus wouldn’t exist if we had socialized healthcare

Idiots say a lot of things, like that we wouldn’t have the coronavirus without Chinese people. Serious people — actually, even rabid anti-ACA Republicans — do say, pay for pandemic prevention. Broken legs aren’t contagious. Ok, semi-serious too. Still.

Guys can we all just be honest? Six hospitals had somewhat reliable tests a week ago. The US is unprepared and insurance and healthcare has nothing to do with that. Leadership ignored it for too long.

Something can have an affect without being a sole cause. On the margin, fear of high medical bills will prevent some sick (contagious) people from seeking care. Since it's exponentially spread small effects to average infection rate can have large effects!
