the problem we face in discussing coronavirus is our blindspot to outlier events, and by extension existential risk. a new, lethal, highly-communicable virus, if even contained, is *certainly* more dangerous than a widespread flu we already understand. and this isn't contained.

framed another way, coronavirus is an asymmetric risk. we can reasonably estimate the number of people who will die this year from flu. but there's currently no predicting coronavirus. its impact could be negligible, or it could be the deadliest pandemic in history.

the trouble of course is not losing our minds every time a new virus appears, because there will *always* be a new virus. but one of them, eventually, will bring us to our knees. we need to be vigilant.

Strongly disagree w/ assertion that one of them will bring us to our knees. Noting continued human progress, only truly existential threat is losing our drive to progress but that also won't happen either. So as long as we succeed in having space colonies, humanity will be fine
