Me too. In San Francisco, I've talked to a few parents at my son's soccer class etc. The only thing they knew about the Coronavirus was "it's not as bad as the flu". I told them about asymptomatic spread, parts of China on lockdown, forced quarantine and they were shocked.

The most you can do is protect against the flu. The future is unknown in both directions ie we don't know if things will be really bad or if there is nothing to be worried about. So there is no reason to make either claim in the absence of data. Neither is exclusively beneficial
