the path to multi planetary prolly looks something like: earth -> lunar base -> self sustaining space colonies around earth -> space colonies around mars -> mars base
we either colonize mars or we don’t leave earth. no one wants to raise a family on a zero gravity hunk of metal in free fall around planet earth

Issues are pretty much entirely with cost of materials. Need asteroid mining up and running before something like this could even approach cost effective

we will colonize mars, but I'm not nearly as bearish on space living as you are. Plenty of people will opt for the space (& political freedom) that come from living off-planet. Pretty sure they'll be super lux as well, fwiw
