people are for the most part not observing wealth on instagram. they are observing a highly-believable *performance* of wealth on instagram.

I agree that there are tons of “wealth performers” on instagram. But I also believe that we have a highly distorted view on what is perceived as wealth. Access to clean drinking water is a sign of wealth for example.
