this is crude but I’ve never been able to get it out of my head that the income inequality debate is status anxiety of the top 10-15% transmuted into concern about *absolute inequality* which, if you care about actual data continues to improve
it would be interesting to compare degree of perceived income inequality with hours logged on instagram. you’re not oppressed you’re just bored?

Nah bring bored is somewhat of a privilege ... boredom doesn’t come easy if your days are clogged with menial minimum wage work. In fact many high-income earners would cite boredom as valuable — it’s when passions are discovered and creativity flows — positive correlation maybe?
