setting aside the fact that writing this on the supercomputer that lives in my pocket and publishing to one of the largest media platforms of all time is like... not a small thing: stripe, flexport, palantir, tesla, spacex, anduril, emerald, rigup - just getting started herehttps://twitter.com/eliotwb/status/1206974211060723713 …

and our ‘economic slump’ is... verifiably not real? unless you work for a newspaper. we lost manufacturing to china, not tech. unemployment is down. US carbon emissions have been dropping for twenty years. and should maybe talk about crispr? crypto? quantum fucking physics?pic.twitter.com/gI5QxLX5oY

we are truly in a total fog of war. almost nothing written on the topics of technology, the economy, or politics is true. these days the only thing i know for sure is the media makes money on clicks, and misery keeps us clicking.

I thought it was a good article. It's not all pessimism--it's just saying we are capable of more innovation and economic growth than we currently have. Setting our standards high is not a bad thing.

True, but a steelman of @DKThomp's point is that our basic services (healthcare, infra, and edu) have only been exponentially growing in cost SpaceX is a wild accomplishment, yet aren't our physical surroundings the same as they were 50 yrs ago (besides computers)?
