      This isn’t making a judgement on drinking. I drink alcohol. Portraying alcohol as a way to cope the way we do will feel misguided in retrospect I suspect.

      yes, my point is alcohol is an integral part of human life for many of the reasons you listed as misguided depictions in film. coping, social lubrication, releasing bottled up emotion — this is why drinking exists. hollywood is reflecting reality here, it isn’t creating it.
