no, malthus was wrong at the time of publication. wealth, health, food production all increased along with population *leading up* to the conception of his 'malthusian catastrophe.'

It is absolutely bananas that someone (e.g. Malthus) can be so thoroughly wrong, both in the specific (i.e. Britain around ~1800) and in the general, and yet his ideas keep surviving as a popular meme for 220+ years, defying all attempts to reject them

I find the same to be true about Marx. His reasoning was not just wrong but he completely failed to understand what was going on in Industrial Britain. No idea why we still read him. At least Malthus would have been right if he understood technology and productivity growth.
