Great question. To start, millions of manufacturing related jobs were lost in swing states leading up to the 2016 election. These voters were promised retraining for new jobs, often in tech. With how hard learning code actually it's no surprise those jobs never showed up...
yes, millions of manufacturing jobs were lost... because labor in asia is cheap. this is why bernie and trump incessantly talked about trade rather than robots, a message that resonated with the middle and lower income voters in *both* political parties.
