Let’s not act like the people of New York are receiving those jobs. It’s not employing the local community, providing an exodus from poverty, or supporting local businesses. It’s gentrification at its finest.

Nope. There was no promise of 20,000 in exchange for Billions of taxpayer money. Year one projection was 700 jobs.

this is literally propaganda. amazon was planning a new headquarters meant to be equivalent to seattle. that’s 45,000 people. tens of thousands of jobs. please read something other than ocasio’s twitter feed.

The public was going to pay $3 billion in public subsidies & millions in hard cash building Amazon’s campus for them- NYC residents were subsidizing Amazon tons per job. Now they‘re bringing work without the welfare.

“Monsters” seems overdone. It isn’t as if tech companies in aggregate aren’t expanding their headcount in NYC, especially Google and FB. There are plenty of jobs to go around even without Amazon’s HQ2. don’t think the tech workforce will notice a dip in supply of jobs at all.

If there’s an argument to be made it’s more that LIC part of NYC will be less developed than it could be with Amazon, not so much that 20k jobs over ?? years is itself meaningful.
