at the risk of sounding overly woke, i don't like the "male/female" terminology for cables. it was so obviously made by horny nerds and now the rest of us have to pretend it's normal

Hot take that may or may not have any validity: male/female terminology for cables actually prevents inappropriate jokes/distractions. The metaphor is obvious either way, but by standardizing on an explicit single entendre, the opportunity for attempted humor is removed.
