there is an entire field of concepts we abandoned not because science proved them impossible, but because we decided, culturally, they sounded crazy. modifying hurricanes is absolutely something we should be focussed on. https://www.wsj.com/articles/when-the-u-s-tried-to-control-hurricanes-11573880461 …pic.twitter.com/WpkS2V3r0K

I wanted to write a piece of short science fiction about China using cloud seeding to mitigate the impact of their coal power plants, and the US unilaterally shooting down their planes because that’s the wrong way to solve global warming.

So i have a provocative thought. I don’t know the answer necessarily, but it does make me think. It involves the Drake Equation. For those of you unfamiliar with it, the equation attempts to calculate the likelihood of the existence of other intelligent life. Google it. 1/n

solar geoengineering seems like an obvious low hanging fruit. there’s this working group at Harvard at the moment of literally the best cited climate scientists working just grinding away at it with like three random folks in attendance every week. also free lunch.

Have you read The Imagineers of War about the history of DARPA? A bunch of examples that were both crazy and giving funding anyways out of desperation and keeping with the original spirit of DARPA, and crazy but stopped because they were crazy.https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35958096-the-imagineers-of-war …
