i think of superheroes as our modern greek pantheon. same purpose minus the religious aspect. idealized role models and enemies, inter-pantheon drama as moral lessons, passage of cultural ideals

fair enough - my own view is that they are like porn for heroic action. And like you say, there is good porn and bad porn, but too much can drain your erotic energy. The one stat I would point out is that with more and more hero movies we have less creative daring than ever.
