important to remember journalists were the unchallenged gatekeepers of ‘truth’ before social, and that shaped their psychology. it’s not just their business, it’s their identity — they really believe they’re uniquely equipped to understand the world. not bad people, just wrong.
my point isn’t people never disagreed with the dominate narrative. my point is people didn’t used to have enough power for that to matter.
