why do you think this is a step closer to war? i feel like it’s a kind of olive branch to avoid the next uber scenario (theoretically at least, who knows in practice)

what scenario? if your implication is uber wouldn’t exist if the local sf government were in charge of what new things we were allowed to build then i agree with you, and that would be horrible, and every single person in the tech industry should absolutely be opposed to this.

I still don’t understand what this tech office will actually DO. If I wanted to start a tech company, would I have to get a special permit? That would be nuts. Everything from coffee shops to fitness studios to home delivery is all built on great tech these days.

If I wanted to negotiate with the city to install, say, vending machines or bike pods or whatever on city property, will they streamline negotiations and help me find the right person to assist with Board hearings and whatnot? That *could* be useful. Again, it’s not clear.

they have 250k and the highest concentration of entrepreneurs in the world. they’re not here to help you navigate their bureaucracy (?!). they want you to disappear.
