a journalist once told me large companies had a “duty” to respond to press inquiries. why? because, she said, they run critical infrastructure, but who are these people? no one elected them. that struck me as reasonable. until it occurred to me... wait, who elected you?

well we could've gone in a direction of more of a state-supported media a la the BBC in the US, but we decided not to in the post-war period, choosing a private, advertising supported one, hence private-sector journalists w/ less public accountability.
my point is not that journalists are correct, my point is upon further reflection the journalistic sense of entitlement to an executive’s time seems both hypocritical and silly
