That might imply we should want to create positions for elected journalists... I think that's the only way to make the status quo in that industry worse.

well we could've gone in a direction of more of a state-supported media a la the BBC in the US, but we decided not to in the post-war period, choosing a private, advertising supported one, hence private-sector journalists w/ less public accountability.
