Grant was exactly the man Lincoln needed, at the right time. Grant saw the genius in the mercurial Sherman. Grant knew that to win a war you must attack and be willing to accept the disproportional loss of life. He was also an outstanding horseman.

This has nothing to do with libertarianism! The Civil War was the greatest single expansion of federal power to that point in the country’s history. This would seem at odds with a professed libertarian. But if you want to keep dropping random factoids I’m ready! Let’s go!
