no place i worked for free could afford to pay me, and all were respectful of my time and outside professional commitments (aka coffee shop... to “pay the bills”). i made the choice to intern, and the choice changed my life.

At 19, interned

It’s totally okay for you to pay >$20,000/yr to learn nothing useful but it should illegal for you to work for free to get practical experience and connections!!!1!

They'll simply not hire any interns. A lot of people want to do internships because they get to gain experience. If the government demands that they're paid, they simply won't get the internship, which is bad not only for the company but also the potential interns.
