It is crazy how many times I've heard versions of this idea. You could keep them floating quite a ways out semi-permanently if you had sufficient demand to keep a few taxi-boats in business

that didn’t even occur to me - that’s brilliant. dramatically reduces energy costs and pretty much kills the environmental argument against.

I think this might work. Im reminded of a story on HN of two guys who built the MVP of their product on cruise ships. The all in cost per day was cheaper than their apartments in SF.

Not a bad way to get a team working intensively. Especially if you can figure out the internet issues (usually prohibitively expensive on cruise ships)
