Hmm not entirely sure “If *I’m* elected President we’re going to cure cancer” demonstrates ambition or a misguided faith in his own personal abilities. The only thing he can do is motivational speeches and diversions of taxpayer money. It is the scientists who will cure it.
-
How much taxpayer money will be needed to cure cancer? Does it need to be taxes, would charitable donations suffice? How close are we to curing cancer? Is what’s stopping us money or scientific breakthroughs? As a President he can make it a priority but he can’t guarantee it.

come on. This isn't about "meeting challenges", he literally promises to cure cancer if he's elected president. That isn't "ambition". That's a lie. He's lying. We're not going to cure cancer in 8 years.

I think great challenges are indeed important. I think picking which ones to take on is key, and I think this was a poor choice.

Mostly agree with this but there is a difference between "we are incapable" and "politicians are incapable." Young Americans expect most breakthroughs from the private sector.

what is even worse is all the armchair pundits writing off the incredible work Biden has already done against the disease— we’re making progress, slow sure, but it would be slower without the moonshot

Agreed. This is an entirely reasonable national “stretch goal” for a US president to plant for the 2020s.

If not us, who? If not then, when?
