i'm often told we're caught in a war of semantics — the left isn't arguing for 'real' socialism, they just want healthcare and free education. while this is true broadly, ocasio agrees with the standard definition of capitalism, and explicitly seeks to dismantle it.
i think the only way we stem populism is by fixing healthcare and housing, and getting young people out of student debt. we need pragmatic solutions to lowering costs as soon as possible or one of these strongmen is going to take power and burn the house down.
Two things I think are true: 1 - Despite the rise of populist socialist politicians, true socialism will never get traction in the U.S. 2 - Significant redistribution is inevitable in the long-term
