i'm often told we're caught in a war of semantics — the left isn't arguing for 'real' socialism, they just want healthcare and free education. while this is true broadly, ocasio agrees with the standard definition of capitalism, and explicitly seeks to dismantle it.

i think the only way we stem populism is by fixing healthcare and housing, and getting young people out of student debt. we need pragmatic solutions to lowering costs as soon as possible or one of these strongmen is going to take power and burn the house down.

I find it very telling when these folks describe productive property ownership as this obscenely fantastic life situation — not to argue for reform to expand that enviable class to include more of us, but to harness the schadenfreudian impulse to break what one can't have
