Not talked about at all: I knew a young (straight) couple that simply did not settle down and have kids because, uh, he wasn’t interested in marrying 100K+ of college debt. I strongly suspect this is common.

All subsidies for and taxes against individual citizens is a complete violation of the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments. Abolish the 16th Amendment. The Federal government has no right to confiscate your wealth. Period.

Even more important is to accurately characterise what *is* the public good, which is higher education. Many European countries fund higher education for students out of general taxation because they see higher education as such.

Higher Ed in Europe is not really comparable to much of the colleges in the US. And im not sure if Americans would be ok with european trade-offs.
