we are supposed to believe 1) life is ubiquitous 2) it is necessarily hostile 3) to the extent that countless civilizations are destroying millions of stars but 4) ...we see no evidence of this. nor 5) evidence of any other cosmic phenomena mentioned in the trilogy? no.

it’s more of a thought experiment than based on the current evidence. *if* the visible universe teemed with life of varying maturity and *if* resources are finite and *if* resources are needed for survival and *if* all life forms desired survival...dark forest theory feels right

with cosmic timescales it also seems unlikely that any two civilizations would be anywhere close to being in a similar era of technological development. it’s more likely that we’d encounter either primitive ants or light traveling all knowing dust clouds than anything in between.
