much in the series is meant to be insightful commentary on human nature, but it’s clear the author has never left china. his history directs every world decision, every plot twist. and so this is the series’ only silver lining - it is at least a great study of chinese culture

Yeah, Three Body Problem starts off strong! The Dark Forest was rough, although from what I've heard that is directly related to the fact they changed up translators and a lot got lost in translation. The third one had some novel weapons tech, but was definitely nihilistic AF.

agree three body problem was strong, though it also had problems imo. benefit of the doubt was given bc liu had two more books to satisfy the reader. he chose instead to write a poorly-argued treatise on nihilism.
