Did they follow human subjects research standards? Teens can’t give consent alone. Facebook has abused this before when trying to manipulate moods.

It’s probably legal, but I would’ve never received approval for that from the institutional review board at graduate school on ethical grounds. This sounds more like data harvesting than user research.
