james no one is saying you NEED to use the service. if you want to send in your returns by owl post that's fine. but the IRS already HAS a website. it should function like turbotax. /end

Fine, I agree totally. I'm just saying that it would cost money to implement and maintain. TurboTax costs the USG nothing.
