I've been mulling over why this happens, and I think part of the reason is that I read as part of the Establishment, so people are very upset when I say something that would be tame for a reporter, or an avowed gadfly like e.g.

imo: moral righteousness is core to the identity of silicon valley and the media. you're the only well-respected voice in sv with a large media platform advising self-reflection rather than action. this challenges foundational pillar of identity, which is scary. fear begets rage.
