agree freedom to choose must be protected. but the two are definitely related. ppl in free countries choosing to practice have a cultural incentive to downplay global oppression. “it’s not that bad abroad!” no, it’s bad. we already *have* freedom to choose. many abroad don’t.

I agree. But I’m not sure it’s true that ppl in free countries have a “cultural incentive to downplay global oppression”. That’s a broad statement, and many who can culturally relate, seem to point a light, because they understand on a more visceral level.
