agree that’s also wrong. but imo there’s a difference between brutal religious subjugation and a well-meaning but ultimately illiberal salve for it. i *love* throwing stones at france, but there is a non trivial minority of girls effectively under shariah in that country.

Women who choose to wear
, vs women who are forced to wear it, are unrelated. Not allowing women who are proud to wear it, to celebrate it, only perpetuates more oppression, and does nothing to help those who are forced to wear it. Our world doesn’t have to be this or that. -
agree freedom to choose must be protected. but the two are definitely related. ppl in free countries choosing to practice have a cultural incentive to downplay global oppression. “it’s not that bad abroad!” no, it’s bad. we already *have* freedom to choose. many abroad don’t.
