It's not about wiping out diseases, it's an ethics issue. If this researcher actually did what he claims, he permanently altered 2 human beings w/o informed consent, no prior trials, and no idea of the potential complications. It is *not* our job to play God like this.
It's an expression. It means it's not up to a single individual to determine the path of life. That's why ethics exist, guidelines based on collective ideas of what should/shouldn't be done. Especially in fields like medicine and bioengineering. But go ahead, nitpick semantics
