Yeah, this error is evergreen. You don't build cool stuff by trying to be somebody. You build cool stuff by building cool stuff. It usually takes a lot of time and can get pretty harrowing. Do it or don't. Make it a side project if you want, get a 9-5. It's your life https://twitter.com/asteroid_saku/status/1066428550356492288 …

you'll note that (as with the hustle-only side) the most vocal proponents have all reached meaningful success and are *unable* to see the survivorship bias that they perpetuate

what’s best is folks like huffington telling us to sleep more. Man, I really want to ask her where she thinks she would be if she followed her own advice & whether she ll be worth listening to today if she slept more during those early years. It’s a trade off. Nothing normative.

So much of this is just a battle over subjective perception & semantics. Like, what does working “hard” even mean? Number if hours? Singular focus? Whatever it does, it’s a personal choice & sacrifice. Why this is even a debate is beyond me. No one tells athletes to practice less

Work hard, but don't kill yourself doing it. You have to be able to work sustainably over a career or you're just going to get burnt out and be ineffective.
