all this at the expense of a fame signal though, which probably hurts growth, so shocked jack is even considering

Or only show the likes if you are friends with the person liking. This allows Twitter to still use likes for discovery, but gets rid of the comparison game. (It’s also how WeChat moments handles comments and likes)

Why kill anything? The likes are great the way they are and built Twitters popularity. Removing them as a metric will only hurt engagement and allow Twitter to manipulate what people see. But it will also destroy Twitter as it makes the platform less enjoyable.

I think the real problem is populating our timelines/feed with liked tweets. I don't want to see what people _liked_, I want to see what people _said_. If I wanted to see what people liked I would be on Facebook.

@primalpoly@jack@micsolana ref: kill *public* likes. Might be good. Sometimes it is nice to be in “just saying” mode. We are not all trying generate a massive following (luckily in my case). Ability to turn it off (or sleep it) would be good.https://twitter.com/micsolana/status/1056977746516107264 …Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
