imagine citing the astronomical price of real estate in san francisco while, in the same tweet, calling for policy that will absolutely raise the price of real estate in san franciscohttps://twitter.com/Benioff/status/1055842765597171712 …

Higher taxes lead to higher real estate prices? It's usually the opposite....

benioff is proposing to, among many other things, subsidize housing for thousands of families at market rate

Giving someone a housing subsidy will generally lower the cost of their housing unless I’m missing something. Though your argument may be that homelessness is good as it lowers demand for housing which is an interesting take.

no, i’m saying this will increase demand by decreasing supply at market rate. we are now paying people to pay for housing that is too expensive bc supply is *already* limited. prices will necessarily rise.

So essentially don’t house the homeless because it might raise prices for everyone else.

no, my position is BUILD HOUSING. concurrently, build emergency shelter space with 10k more beds.

Prop C spends half the money doing exactly that, building housing. The rest is spent on emergency shelters (as you advocate), mental health services, mobile bathrooms and rental assistance to those that have housing but are in danger of losing it.

we have 300 million a year already. we could start building shelter space tomorrow if the policy were put in place. and no, prop c isn’t building housing. that requires zoning and legislation, not pouring 300 million more into a strategy that will never work.

And by all accounts, the $300 million we have today is working, but it isn’t enough. I don’t remember concerns about it being ineffective when we were talking a sales tax increase or commercial rents tax increase to fund homeless services.
