It’s obvious that given equal resources we should vastly prefer it being voluntarily directed by one competent person who wants to solve a problem over thousands of people who are also trying to perpetuate their organization or get re-elected.

I bet a lot of tech leaders are disappointed in their philanthropic efforts because they find the technology they helped create had a much larger utility on a lot more poeple - and for probably a lot less money.
