The reason for the spectacle might simply be that the political classes in the US and Europe freak out that a president of the West is not one of them. It might well be an issue of social class, not that he’s worse than Bush/Cheney.

I think there’s some truth to this, but one side effect is a genuine disregard for convention (attacks on the press, financial ethics) and predictability (Iran deal, g7, nato, nafta, DACA, etc). Class plays a role, but policy, substance, and predictability matter as well.
