Smoking lowers risk of inflammatory bowel disease and pre-eclampsia. Inflammation is a spectrum with an optimal time and place. Just right = wound healing. Out of control = sepsis. Biology is complex.

Lab I did research in studied DNA damage. Postdoc came back from conference, heard it suggested that in order to keep DNA repair enzymes from atrophe when low exposure to environmentail polutants, 1 cig per day.

It’s the same as narrative - you either create your own, or it will be created for you. Doing these things is a stoic embrace of the inevitable. Not so much about control, more choice... and the byproducts if choosing like depth of understanding.
