SF has enjoyed/endured 40 yrs of (basically) unopposed Leftist/Democratic governance + it’s the tech epicenter of the Universe. If Democrats were right on policy it should be the crown jewel of their empire...and yet, we all see what’s happening. Why does no one point this out?

Your argument translates to "look at the critical issues in the present" which is short sighted. If you don't plan for the future and just fix your present pains, you will eventually fix most pains and be in a present that "wasn't well planned". Come to Mumbai sometime :)
