When do you think the #Arctic will be virtually ice free (less than 1 million square km) in the summer?
Not a big fan of this arbitrary 1M threshold. If you look at ice age or ice thickness one can argue that most of the older and thicker sea ice is already gone and there is no need to wait another 30 or so years to see it disappear. #WeScientistsErrOnTheSideOfCaution :-|pic.twitter.com/73rqZMgdUW

Agree it seems arbitrary but it has been used now for some time. It makes sense as we could see small patches of thicker ice that add up to less than 1 millions sq. km resulting in a “virtually” ice free
