How it started.
How it ended.
A few thoughts below.pic.twitter.com/2lNV0Up6If

We also had his former opponent, @NancyTungSF in the room. She spoke a lot about her views on crime and the role of the DA.
It was not for the faint of heart.
She lost to Chesa last year, and is a long-time prosecutor. She did not comment on if she will run again.
A few other notable speakers that I invited in were @AnnieGaus (a journalist who just founded a newspaper focused on SF & Economics @publiccommentsf) and @AnnieUle (former COO of @tippingpoint, a very large nonprofit that battles poverty).
The conversation reached ~3000 people at the peak. About 100x expectations. We had the "hands raise" feature on, but it was getting hammered. ~50 people were trying to get into the conversation. Many with anonymous accounts. I believed we were being trolled.
It was hard to know what to do. We had all these people on a call, we had no agenda or topics for discussion, it sort of took on a life of its own. There were a few elements I really did not like - namely people calling others liars, or interrupting, or derailing.
By the time we wrapped, Twitter was ablaze, and about 600 people were in a Clubhouse room dedicated to talking about how our room had been racist. My heart sank. I joined the convo. Hand raising was turned off. I would have liked to participate...pic.twitter.com/Dpc7GEAxmQ
I then saw this tweet by @EricaJoy and my heart sank further.
I was up half the night thinking about it.https://twitter.com/EricaJoy/status/1349952552096260097?s=20 …
A few questions running through my mind: 1) Should I have anticipated this would go viral? If so, should I have had speakers & topics lined up? 2) If lining up speakers, what groups should have been represented? 3) How can you represent all groups if the panel is small?
4) Only the black community spoke out loudly about this, yet many groups were not represented by the speakers, why is that? 5) I saw that the group was leaning white, but the hands raised were flying in fast from anon accounts, should I have blindly accepted?
6) If I host another Clubhouse and choose a white speaker will I be trolled and attacked? 7) If I can only host a clubhouse that has a black co-host or speaker, what are the pros/cons of that?
I'm mulling on all these questions and more. Honestly, I'm a bit shaken up. Getting DMs and mentions saying I'm a white supremacist and racist has felt awful. I wish that someone had reached out directly to give me feedback on how I could do better.
TBH, I'm not sure if I want to host another Clubhouse after this, but if I do, I'd like to include a wider diversity of voices. So here is my ask -- who is Black, in SF, and a total policy wonk? Seeking ideas for a guest speaker or co-host. DMs are open.
